Next public meeting for I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 5:00-6:30pm – online only. Meeting details and project background below.
PennDOT and Fay, S&B USA Construction will be hosting a virtual public meeting to discuss the ongoing I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project on Wednesday, May 13. This briefing offers the public an opportunity to hear about the upcoming I-376 Parkway East full closure, schedule, planned detour routes, and future work plans, as well as to participate in a Q&A session with the project team.
The next major traffic impacts related to the project are a full 25-day closure and detour of I-376 Parkway East in both directions beginning July 10, 2026 through August 3, 2026.
Interested community members can attend (online only) by accessing a virtual meeting link that will be shared on the PennDOT project website in advance of the meeting. Attendees who require multilingual support or special assistance when viewing the presentation should contact John Myler via email in advance of the meeting.
Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2026
Time: 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Location: Online only
How to attend: Visit the PennDOT project website to find the meeting link which will be posted in advance of the meeting. Viewers can join through the Microsoft Teams app or by using the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browser.
Note: A recording of the presentation will be posted to the PennDOT project website following the virtual public meeting, as well. Details from past public outreach including a recording from the August 2024 Virtual Public Meeting July 2021, and related project documents can be found on the PennDOT project website, as well.
What commuters can expect next: The full 25-day closure and detour of I-376 Parkway East traffic in both directions beginning July 10, 2026 through August 3, 2026. This schedule is subject to change.
During this period, Nine Mile Run Trail, Commercial Street, and Forward Avenue will also be closed between Nine Mile Run and the Frick Park Commercial Street parking lots. In addition to motorist/transit vehicle detours, a suggested bicycle detour has been identified by PennDOT.
Maps of all planned detour routes can be accessed via PennDOT project website linked above.
This next phase of traffic restrictions follows several overnight full closures and detours of eastbound I-376 as well as a full weekend closure and detour of I-376 in each direction in 2025. As of February 13, 2026, Commercial Street/Forward Avenue and Nine Mile Run Trail are open for use (following the November 24 through February 13 closure required to accommodate bridge construction adjacent to the existing bridge structure.)
Single-lane and shoulder restrictions in each direction of I-376 will continue on weekends and weeknights as needed through 2026. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the summer of 2027.
About the project: The $95 million I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Replacement project site is located between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange in Swissvale Borough and Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Pittsburgh—spanning Nine Mile Run, Frick Park, and Commercial Street below.
The project is utilizing Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques to laterally slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 Parkway East.
The Arched Delta Frame Structure is being constructed just south of the existing Commercial Street Bridge on temporary foundations and will be slid onto the existing alignment once demolition of the existing bridge has occurred.
Work related to the project also includes the installation of new overhead signage and eastbound retaining wall, lowering the westbound I-376 off-ramp to Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg Interchange (Exit 78B) to increase vertical clearance under the Parkway East, concrete median barrier replacement, sanitary sewer line relocation, upgrades to guide rail, ITS devices, Over Height Truck Detection System, and CCTV Cameras, as well as overall site restoration for both Frick Park and the Frick Park walking trail.
The Joseph B. Fay Company is the prime contractor.
