Pennsylvania is required to develop and submit a plan to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to utilize funds allocated through the new National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to support electric vehicle infrastructure. The program focuses on Direct Current Fast Charging stations (DCFC) that can provide up to an 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Survey will close on Thursday, June 30.
The NEVI Formula Program provides dedicated funding to Pennsylvania and other states to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability. Funding under the program is initially directed to designated Alternative Fuels Corridors (AFC) for build out of a national EV charging network, particularly along the Interstate Highway System to support long-distance travel. Once the FHWA certifies that Pennsylvania's AFCs are fully built out, funding may then be used on any public road or in other publicly accessible locations.
The state plan is considered an evolving document with a 5-year vision, and it will be updated annually to reflect changes to initiatives and focus areas. PennDOT's stakeholder comment survey for the State NEVI Plan can be accessed online and takes only a few minutes to complete. Key segments of PA's NEVI State Plan like vision statement, program goals, priorities, etc., are quoted directly in the questionnaire to make providing your input easier, and the input provided will help shape PennDOT's prioritization criteria tied to NEVI goals and objectives.
