New programs from Duquesne Light expect to "significantly expand" number of public, workplace, multi-family, and fleet electric charging stations

Three new programs were announced by Duquesne Light (DLC) to help local organizations efficiently make the switch to an electric fleet. The company said that it expects the programs to "significantly expand" the number of public, workplace, multi-family, and fleet electric charging stations in Allegheny and Beaver counties.

"...DLC is increasing opportunities for customers and communities to experience the many benefits of electric mobility while addressing one of our area's largest sources of carbon emissions and air pollution – transportation," said Vice President of Corporate Strategy at DLC, Brian Gruzek. "Our new programs support local organizations in reaching their sustainability targets and make it even more convenient for residents to choose electric transportation."

  • Community Charging Program – Partners with eligible customers to design and construct electric charging, make-ready infrastructure – from the power grid to the charging station. Customers will purchase and install the charging station units, with DLC covering the installation costs. Customers may also be eligible for state funding to purchase the stations, and a DLC rebate of up to 100% of the cost if the project is located within an Environmental Justice Area and serves a disadvantaged community.
  • Electric Fleet Advisory Service – Utilizes fleet data from participating customers and works with them to provide a no-cost roadmap to fleet electrification, including recommendations for vehicle acquisitions, cost of ownership comparisons, and an environmental impact analysis.
  • Fleet Charging Program – DLC will design and construct electric charging, make-ready infrastructure for its existing customers that are already electrifying or planning to electrify their fleets. Just as in the Community Charging Program, DLC will cover cost of installation, with the customers purchasing stations and installing them. In this program, existing customers may also be eligible for state funding and a DLC rebate of up to 50% of the charging station cost.

DLC also announced that it is expanding its work with Pittsburgh Regional Transit by supporting the installation and covering the cost of DC fast-charging stations for six new all-electric transit buses. In 2020, the company did the same for the transit agency's first two electric buses.
